About Dr. Gomathy Narasimhan

Dr. Gomathy Narasimhan is a highly accomplished multi-organ transplant surgeon and the first woman in India to specialize in both liver and kidney transplantation. Her career spans more than two decades, with extensive expertise in complex adult and pediatric transplants. She completed her MBBS from Kilpauk Medical College in 1996 and went on to earn her MS in General Surgery from Madras Medical College in 2001. Her dedication to advancing transplantation led her to pursue an ASTS Fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, in 2006. Over the years, she has performed and contributed to more than 600 liver transplants and over 1,000 kidney transplants, including several combined liver–kidney transplants in both children and adults. She has also focused her clinical research on rare conditions such as primary hyperoxaluria.

Dr. Narasimhan has made significant contributions to academic medicine, with more than 70 peer-reviewed publications and 8 textbook chapters. She is also a regular invited faculty member at national and international transplant conferences and CME lectures. Beyond surgery, she has expanded her expertise into healthcare leadership by completing a management degree at IIM Bangalore in 2019, reflecting her commitment to integrating clinical excellence with healthcare administration.
